The Hackfeld Gate has fallen into disrepair due to a lack of maintenance since it was put in its current location in the early 1970′. It needs to be disassembled, sandblasted and missing pieces have to be manufactured and replaced. Once all that is complete it will be time for a special new coat of weather resistant, salt-water proof paint.
We are expecting the cost for this project to surpass $50,000. Money that we need to collect from donors, who understand and support the significance of Hawaiian and German-Hawaiian history.
Our group consists of members of the German Benevolent Society of Honolulu (GBS), the Honorary Consul of Germany in Hawaii and the German Consulate General in San Francisco. The GBS was founded in 1858 and incorporated in 1889. Part of the GBS initial funding came from Hackfeld & Co. GBS is a non-profit organization and run by volunteers.
We take contributions of any amount above $25.00.
